Disk protection: Listed configurations include RAID 0. RAID 0 does not provide data redundancy against disk failure; plan independent backups and alternative RAID options separately according to your needs.

Inside the platform

Assess every layer of your dedicated configuration.

Processor model and generation

DDR3 platforms such as E5620 / X5670 and E5 v4-based DDR4 options belong to different generations. Assess the model, clock speed, application compatibility and licensing criteria together rather than relying on core count.

Physical cores and threads

Logical thread count is not the same as physical core count. Use the processor manufacturer’s model information when planning licensing or virtualization; this is why the table specifies the processor model.

RAM and capacity planning

Configurations from 32 GB to 256 GB are selected based on the combined needs of applications, database caches and virtual machines. DDR3 and DDR4 memory belong to different platforms; upgrade options depend on the hardware.

SSD and RAID layout

Configurations range from a single 240 GB disk to 2 × 2 TB SSD options. Assess the disk count and raw capacity in the table alongside usable space after RAID.

Network connection and port

Plans are listed with port details. Port capacity, shared uplink and actual transfer speed are different measures. Configurations with conflicting port information in the data are verified separately during ordering.

Remote operation and licensing

Plan operating system access, reinstallation, hardware intervention and remote console needs. Add cPanel, Plesk, Windows and database licenses to the total cost.

From handover to operation

Accept the hardware and intervention process together.

Before putting a dedicated server into production, match the ordered configuration to the information shown in the system. Clear remote access and fault-handling procedures help your technical team take the right action during an incident.

Technical acceptance record for a dedicated server

CPU and memoryProcessor model, socket/core count and installed RAM.Operating system compatibility, virtualization needs and core-based licensing criteria.
Disk and RAIDDisk model/count, array layout and usable space visible to the system.Responsibility for fault reporting, disk replacement, any array rebuild and recovery from independent backups.
Remote consoleA console or recovery method separate from normal SSH/RDP access.Whether IPMI/KVM access is offered, its permissions/duration/fees and the process when the operating system will not boot.
Network and interventionIP details, required ports, connection measurements and technical contact record. The boundary between hardware intervention and application support; any contractual notification and intervention times.

Before reinstallation or disk replacement, determine the impact on data and the required approval. Fixing a disk failure does not automatically restore application data. Link license, operation and backup costs to the same configuration in your business quote file.

Reading disk capacity

Distinguish raw capacity from usable space.

The calculation below for two equal 1 TB disks is illustrative only; it does not represent stock or an offered RAID option. Actual usable space is reduced by RAID metadata, TB/TiB units, the file system and operating system overhead.

Theoretical capacity for 2 × 1 TB disks
LayoutRaw totalSpace calculationBehavior on disk failure
RAID 02 TBApproximately 2 TB before metadata and system overhead. No redundancy; a single disk failure can lose the array.
RAID 12 TBApproximately 1 TB due to mirroring; system overhead reduces it further.A two-disk mirror is intended to tolerate one disk failure; independent backups are still required.

The Linux kernel’s RAID documentation explains striping and mirroring layouts. Define your business’s recovery needs together with a backup plan.

Custom configuration

To prepare an accurate quote

  • Application and operating system requirements.
  • Target processor model, memory and disk.
  • Usable space after RAID and independent backup needs.
  • Traffic, port and IP address requirements.
  • Management, licenses and delivery schedule.

RAID and backups solve different problems.

RAID 0 distributes data across disks but provides no redundancy against disk failure. A failure in this layout can cause loss of server data. For workloads requiring data continuity, assess a suitable RAID option separately.

Even with redundant RAID, independent copies are needed for deletion, corruption and unauthorized changes. Define files, databases, retention and restore steps within the same backup plan.

Server management

Separate hardware resources from system administration.

Assign a team to operating system, application and backup tasks. If additional management service is needed, define its scope separately.

Dedicated server questions

Clarify before ordering.

What is the difference between a dedicated server and VDS?

A dedicated server is a separate hardware configuration; VDS uses resources provided on virtualization infrastructure. Dedicated options are considered for projects with hardware-level needs. Management and backup requirements should be planned separately in both models.

How long does server delivery take?

Delivery time depends on availability, selected hardware, operating system and additional configurations. Verify the delivery schedule for your order before assuming a specific setup time.

Why is RAID 0 not a backup?

RAID 0 distributes data across disks and provides no fault tolerance. One disk failure can cause data loss. Even when considering RAID 1 or other redundant layouts, independent backup copies are needed for deletion, software errors and attacks.

Does port speed provide the same transfer rate on every connection?

Port capacity is not a guaranteed end-to-end speed for every connection. The remote endpoint, network path, traffic conditions and server disk or processor performance affect transfers. Assess port, traffic and any speed commitment together with contractual scope.

Are software licenses and management included?

Operating system, control panel and database licenses, and management services may be charged separately depending on the selected configuration. Check whether these items are included when reviewing the order total.

Can I migrate applications from my existing server?

A migration plan can be prepared by reviewing application architecture, data size, operating system and dependencies. Testing, data synchronization, DNS cutover and rollback steps if needed are defined according to the migration scope.
