Four steps before transfer.

A domain transfer does not migrate your website or mailboxes. Plan registrar, DNS and hosting steps separately.

  1. Check status and timing

Restrictions may apply after a new registration, previous transfer or contact information change. Many generic extensions use 60-day lock rules. Verify your extension’s requirements before the expiration date approaches.

  2. Unlock and get the code

Remove the transfer lock with your current registrar and obtain the EPP / Auth code if required. Check that you can access the authorized email address. Do not share the code in the contact form or public records.

  3. Apply through the panel and track approvals

Review the transfer fee, term and time to be added to the domain. Enter the code in the secure step in the client panel; complete the approvals requested by your current and new registrars.

  4. Verify once complete

Track transfer status in the panel. When complete, check the domain owner, new expiration date and name servers. Make sure web, email and automatic renewal settings are correct.

Use the domain transfer checklist guide for preparation and troubleshooting details. Generic extensions follow the ICANN transfer policy; .tr domains follow TRABİS and the authorized registrar’s requirements. Do not assume timing and lock rules are the same across extensions.

REDUCE THE RISK OF DOWNTIME

Domain transfer differs from website migration.

A transfer changes the registrar. Your website files and mailboxes do not move automatically.

  • Take a copy of the current DNS zone.
  • Check web, email, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records separately.
  • If your DNS service depends on your old registrar, find out the conditions for keeping it.
  • If you are migrating hosting at the same time, test the new environment in advance.
  • Start planning the transfer before your domain’s last day.
TRANSFER COMPLETION CRITERIA

Verify application approval along with working services.

Close each transfer with a separate handover record, especially when handling multiple client domains. A domain appearing in the new panel does not replace web and email testing.

If expiration is approaching

Do not use a transfer in place of a last-day renewal. First check renewal and transfer eligibility with your current registrar. For a recently renewed or expired domain, added time and fee conditions may vary by extension.

If ownership will also change

Transferring registrars and changing registrants are separate processes. When handing over a company or client domain, verify documents, permissions and potential transfer restrictions in advance. Do not change ownership details arbitrarily before deciding the sequence.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a transfer take?

Timing depends on the extension, current registrar, lock status and approvals provided. Generic extensions may take several days. You can track the application status in the client panel; no exact completion time is guaranteed.

Does a transfer extend my domain’s registration?

For many generic extensions, a successful transfer adds one year to the existing term. Exceptions apply to some extensions and renewal periods. Check the extension’s terms in the panel before proceeding.

Will my website and email go offline during transfer?

If DNS service and existing records keep working, a transfer alone does not stop hosting. The old provider ending DNS service or a change to name servers can cause downtime; this is why the DNS plan should be prepared in advance.

Can I transfer multiple domains?

You can use the bulk transfer steps supported in the client panel. For domains belonging to many clients, we recommend assessing ownership, authorization and renewal schedules individually.

I lost my transfer code. What should I do?

Request the code again from your current registrar. A transfer code is sensitive information that allows actions on the domain; do not share it in public support records or the contact form.
